The Inspiration for Anvil

The inspiration for Anvil’s name comes from the legacy of Elihu Burritt, nicknamed the “Learned Blacksmith”. Burritt was a diplomat, philanthropist, and activist who lived from 1810 to 1879. Anvil’s Founder, Cam Skinner, is lucky to call Elihu Burritt his ancestor. Burritt’s legacy is an impressive one. He formed the League of Universal Brotherhood and organized the Brussels Peace Congress. He hammered away in his forge, learning nearly fifty foreign languages while solving complex math problems for mental calisthenics. He was a true polymath and polyglot, entirely self-taught.
